Buchholz Falters in Seventh But Red Sox Win 11-6

Monday's game against the Oakland Athletics was an odd one to say the least with Clay Buchholz right at the center of the Red Sox' madness. The struggling starter was in the midst of a gem 2/3 of the way through the sixth but ended up surrendering 7H, 6ER and 5BB before he was removed in favor of Junichi Tazawa.

Going into the seventh inning, the Red Sox had a padded 11-1 lead thanks to a homer and 4 RBI's from leadoff hitter Mike Aviles, a pair of solo bombs off the bat of David Ortiz, a two run homer from Darnell McDonald and a pair of runs driven in by centerfielder Marlon Byrd but Buchholz' struggles would lead to another nail biter on Yawkey Way.

Franklin Morales got the biggest outs of the game in the eighth, getting--former Red Sox--Josh Reddick to ground into a tricky double play, one of three the Athletics ran into.

After Bobby Valentine finally pulled his starter, he used a combination of five relievers to get four outs before going to his closer for the ninth in a non-save situation.

Alfredo Aceves came up with a scoreless ninth inning to give the Sox an 11-6 win in the opener of a seven game home stand at Fenway Park. Tomorrows matchup will feature Felix Doubront vs. Jarrod Parker. Stop by The Yawkey Report for full coverage of the game.
