According to several reports this afternoon, Cody Ross will head to the disabled list with a fractured navicular bone, the same bone that Dustin Pedroia broke in 2010.

The news comes after fouling a pitch off his left foot in the Red Sox interleague opener against the Phillies on Friday. After receiving an MRI following the game, Ross was sent back to Boston for a second test which revealed the broken bone.

With Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford also on the disabled list, Ross was arguably the most productive outfielder on the team, with 8 HR, 27 RBI and a .271 BA in 133 PA.

As the Boston Globe pointed out, Ross will be the sixth Red Sox outfielder to spend time on the DL this season, which prompted a trade for Marlon Byrd and the promotion of Daniel Nava and most recently, Che-Hsuan Lin from Pawtucket. Nothing has been reported as to who will take the spot of Ross on the 25 man roster.
