In the top of the fifth, Dustin Pedroia ranged to his left, making his signature diving play to stop a ball hit by Danny Worth from trickling into the outfield for a hit. All was seemingly well until the All-Star second baseman got to the dugout.
After receiving attention from the Sox medical staff, Pedey was removed from the game with what is being termed a "jammed thumb".
The replacement in this game was utility infielder Nick Punto, but if the second baseman requires more than a couple games to heal, Bobby V may be forced to do some more roster and lineup shuffling.
