I don't say this as a crazed fan from Beantown. I don't say it because I despise Beckett, that's not the case. Sure, I've grown tired of some of the antics, we all have, but I still respect what he has done here and that's why I say it's time to trade him.
The shower of boo's that rained over him tonight was evidence that this fan base has just had enough, and I think he has as well. Things will never get better for Josh in Boston because we won't allow it to.
As fans, this is what we do. When a player underperforms, we feel it's our god given right to let him know about it. Especially when we've "given" him so many chances, as if those chances are ours to give in the first place.
Normally when this happens, the player returns to form and the fans accept it. With this situation it simply won't happen that way. The golf story that broke yesterday was the final straw for too many fans. The dysfunctional relationship between them and Josh Beckett has turned into something entirely different. It's turned into pure hatred.
The only way to make this situation go away is to find a suitor for Beckett. It's a distraction to the team, it's a distraction to the manager and most importantly it's a distraction to the "Texas Tough Guy", as some like to call him.
The struggles and contract situation make it hard to trade him, but the Sox have to do something. He's obviously not pitching to his potential here anymore, he's not happy, and he won't be until his jersey reads differently. If you have to eat his contract, do it. Just make this headache go away because I'm tired of hearing about it.
