Following the revelation that Cody Ross will be placed on the disabled list with a fractured navicular bone in his left foot, Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports the Red Sox will call on recently acquired outfielder Scott Podsednik from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The injury to Cody Ross makes him the sixth Red Sox outfielder to make an appearance on the disabled list this season, with Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford both expected to be starters going into the season.

Crawford's trouble started with wrist surgery in the offseason, which was expected to sideline him until mid-April but an elbow strain has significantly slowed his recovery, pushing his return back until sometime in July.

Jacoby Ellsbury is also expected to be out until July with a subluxation in his right shoulder that the centerfielder sustained just 7 games into the season.

With the Pawtucket Red Sox, Scott Podsednik was hitting .323 with 1 HR, 6 RBI and 2 SB through nine games.
