The Red Sox made a move this afternoon, placing right-handed reliever Scott Atchison on the disabled list with "tightness in his forearm", according to ESPN's Gordon Edes.

Taking his place will be Japanese minor-leaguer Junichi Tazawa in his second stint with the Red Sox this season, after having a successful first half with the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Some believed Atchison has pitched to an All Star level this season, but his role as a middle reliever, for the most part, prevented the 36 year olds name from being mentioned in consideration for the team. He's put up a 1.76 ERA in 46 IP out of the bullpen this season, which is second most in the American League.

Tazawa pitched in five games earlier this season for the Red Sox without allowing a run in 6 1/3 IP, while picking up a save. The 26 year old has been great at AAA as well, posting a 2.55 ERA in 25 games (42 1/3 IP). Whether he can continue to be dependable at the major league level will be determined.

Bobby Valentine will miss Atchison as he has relied heavily on the reliever this season, but hopefully the forearm injury will be minor. According to the Boston Herald, the strain may have occurred against the Yankees before the break when Atch threw 40 pitches out of the 'pen.
